Free parking for green cars

The city council of London has abolished the parking charges of residents driving hybrid and fuel cell cars, in the borough of Westminister.

These are the latest in a series of eco-friendly moves by the local authority. previously electric cars did not have to pay any road tax or congestion charges. It is also the only place in the UK with free charging points on the streets.

The annual residents’ parking permits was previously £78 for hybrid cars and £110 (it still is) for other cars. If other cities followed suit, I would be really tempted to buy a hybrid vehicle myself.

GreenerCars.com has come out with a list of the Greenest Vehicles of 2007.

According to their list, the greenest car is Honda Civic GX followed by the
Toyota Prius. The Honda Civic Hybrid comes third.

Kermit locked out of the NAIAS

Famous Muppet Kermit the Frog, regretted his role as a “spokesfrog” for Ford Motor Company in Ford’s Escape Hybrid commercials last year.

On Sunday, the frog teamed up with RAN, Global Exchange, and The Ruckus Society to kick off the New Year in fuel-efficient style at the North American International Auto Show in downtown Detroit (NAIAS).

During the first press day, Kermit and five other Freedom From Oil supporters attempted to enter the main entrance of the auto show but were immediately stopped by security.

He said, “it’s easy pretending to be green, but Ford needs to commit to leading the industry in fuel economy.”
